This is one from Crockett from our weekend trip. I have several more to post.

This week, I learned an important lesson. I was scrambling to get ready for a show at PhotoCentral. I was going to print out Foxfire for the wall at 11x16.5". I had accidentally saved a web sized version over the original (processed) image. Well, I thought no problem. I have the digital raw file and I will just re-process the image. Well, two hours later and 5 versions later. I realized that I could not reproduce my original processing even though I knew that I had done it quickly that night in Yosemite being very tired. This second version took hours to do and required about 30 adjustment layers to achieve. I do like it better than my original processing but... I am reconsidering flattening my processed images with the belief that I can re-create the processing.
To see the original processed version roll the mouse over the image.

This is a view from the top from Coyote Hills. In the distance, that is Highway 84 used to cross the San Francisco Bay. I have not visited the park for quite a while. It was great to re-visit.

This is another archive raiding shot. This is from my office looking down Market Street in San Francisco.

This is another image raided from the archives. This is a small detail shot taken at the Sacramento Train Museum.

Sorry for not posting. I have been swamped between my job and setting for my portfolio show. Whew!
This is another shot raided from the Sacramento Train Museum. I went out on Saturday morning to Crockett so should have a lot of abstracts but those images are still sitting in the camera. The photographer walked into the shot and is ’chimping’ looking at the back of his own camera.

This is another of the shots from inside the Sacramento Train Museum. If you want to see more images from the Train Museum and better done. See Thomas Hawke.

This is one of the shots from inside the Sacramento Train Museum. I really like this shot but took no other shots of the antique trains. If you want to see more images from the Train Museum and better done. See Thomas Hawke.

This was taken in an alley in Old Sacramento. I found this area very charming. Chip and I were on the way to train museum. I will post some train images soon. In the train museum, I kept thinking that my friend’s little boy would be in heaven. He is 4 years old and a huge train fan.

Another drive-by taken on our roadtrip to Sacramento. This one is a little too sharp. I think that I have unconsciously started panning with the motion.

Today, Chip and I drove up to Sacramento for a visit to the Railroad Museum and dinner with his friends. This image was taken on the way up.

At work, we moved to a new office. The building is still very old built around 1910. We are on the 13th floor and I was struck by the wonderful color show. So, I brought in my camera and my 135mm lens and gave it a go. I left before the really golden light which makes the colors pop even more.

After this, I promise no more cute shots. This another shot of Maizy at Coyote Hills.
![]() |
Here I was inching down the hillside with all the loose rocks. Next thing, Maizy takes off like a rocket after a ground squirrel. She almost jerked me down the hill. Then after creeping along, she goes into the statue pose. I do not think she was after the tufts of grass.

This is our new family member, Maizy Girl. We adopted her from the wonderful Ohlone Humane Society and her fairy godmother was Judy. Judy saw her as she was brought into the shelter and immediately took her home and nursed her to health. We were lucky enough to find Maizy over Christmas. She is about 18 months old and we strongly suspect a pure-bred Papillon. She is a bundle of energy and just learning to walk on her leash.

This is from her walk this morning out at Coyote Hills park. On the way down the hill, she poked her nose into every ground squirrel hole. She thought that it was huge fun!

This was taken on our New Year’s eve visit to Uvas Canyon. Although our weather has been very warm, it was cold, damp and chilling in the canyon. We had very limited time because we had to rush back for an appointment to adopt our new little dog, Maizy Girl. I was chatting on the phone with Mother today and she says "Where is my picture from Uvas Canyon?" Ok Mom. here it is. I have two different versions of this photo. One is smiling and the other is frowning. I posted the smiling version.

This is another taken during my brief visit to Uvas Canyon. I seem to be going back to infrared photography.

Given that I barely did any shooting over the holidays, I decided to do a little archive raiding. This image was one of my first images taken back in 2003. I had owned my digital SLR for about 6 weeks and was attending a weekend workshop up in Point Reyes with Chip. We got up insanely early for sunrise on Drakes Beach. This was the first time that I had used a tripod.

This one has sat in the camera for a few days. It was taken on New Years eve. Later that day, we adopted a new little dog named Maizy Girl through the wonderful Ohlone Humane Society. She is about 2 years old and is mostly black with white socks on her feet and a white chest blaze. She has silky longish hair, standup ears and a curly tail. We call her Monkey Face because of all her expressions. After a little review, I am almost certain that she is a purebred Papillon although she was labeled a Pomeranian mix. Her pictures may be up for a while on Petfinder.

I decided to create a slideshow of all the images that I posted to DorothyPhoto in 2006 on Flickr. Even though I say I am a photo a day blog, I ended up with 458 images. To see the slideshow, click here. Given the length of the slideshow, I suggest you set the time between images to something 1-2 seconds.

This is the last of New Year’s Day photos from Sunol. Earlier in the day, I was remarking that all my infrared photos were taken in soft light (open shade). Mainly because I go out to Sunol after work and the valley is already shaded by the time that I arrive. Well, this one is very different and shows dramatic backlighting.

This is another from Sunol of New Year’s Day. Mother and I met up with Doug and Aphra. Together we hiked out to Little Yosemite. I detoured along the way to visit my favorite tree and Mother’s favorite. On the way, Mother did not know which tree I was talking about. When we approached, she says "Oh, the magic tree". It is actually a Live Inland Oak. It is up on the bank of the creek but when the creek is really flowing some water and boulders get deposited around it.

Today, we went out on a hike to Little Yosemite in Sunol. There were a lot of folks out probably for their New Year’s resolution and the beautiful weather.

And now for something completely different...
A few days ago, I blew the dust off my infrared camera and took about 6 shots. This is one of them. I am about done with my drive-by portfolio which I will get around to posting. Who know what direction the new year will bring?
