Today, I said goodbye to Ago. He passed away suddenly from complications to cancer. Ago was a wonderful, extraordinary man and photographer. I met Ago in my Photographic Style class and was just getting to know him. He did great series of abstracts for his final show. Chip and I own "Migration". If you would like to see his travel photography, visit www.terrascapephoto.com.

A different view when merging onto the freeway.

Well, I cannot recognize where this drive-by was taken. It was somewhere on our way over to Palo Alto.

This is the freeway on-ramp near our house. The grasses and reeds are always brown during our summer dry months. In the winter and spring, the rains create a vernal pool here with ducks, reeds and herons.

Ta Da! This is my 1000th post to my blog. Boy, has it changed over that time. Here is a link to my first post. I started this blog to learn about blogging for a work assignment. Now, I am hooked. I have met a lot of wonderful people from all over. Wonder where I will be at by my 2000th post?

Well, my cable release for my infrared camera went missing again. My cable releases like to go solo on their own. While taking this shot, a family with kids came past. One little boy asked what I was taking a picture of. I had to say "Poison Oak".

This one is a reflection in the creek. It reminds me of some of my drive-bys.

I am off this weekend to the Bert Monroy workshop through Digital Stop. So, prepare for several pink images taken this evening.

With the big deadline at work, too busy to go out and shoot. So, here is a still life of an Amaryllis starting to blossom.

Went archive raiding for this one. It did not make the first cut because there is too much detail in the reflections. Should have spun the polarizer a bit more.

This spot is called worry because the creek has gnawed under these tree roots. I have a very old picture of this spot that I cannot locate. I want to return and get a better shot of the location soon!

I spent the weekend relaxing but decided I wanted to get a few new images for blog. So, I decided to visit Trader Joes to see the fresh cut flowers for still life images. Instead, I found this potted variegated Hebe. This is the most representational of the shots that I have taken.
I recently discovered RadioLab podcasts. They recently had a show on Memory. The painter, Joe Andoe, told the story about his paintings. One day, he started painting empty pastures. One painting after another of empty pastures. Eventually, a distant horse appeared. Slowly, the horse moved closer and closer until at times it was out of focus. At that point, he started painting a nude woman on separate canvases. One day, Joe realized that it was always the same woman. In fact, he recognized the woman as his first love from high school. That triggered the memory of an afternoon tryst parked in a pasture. They were startled by a horse peering into the car’s window. This was a happy point shortly before they broke up and she died. With that thought, I wonder what memories my photography explores.

This is another from the Sunol "Stick and Reflections" series. To see some really gorgeous B&W work check out Cole Thompson. See http://www.colethompsonphotography.com/.

I have been watching the Luminous Landscape "Camera to Print" video. I learned an important printing tip. When printing from Photoshop CS3 to your inkjet printer. You should always let "Photoshop manage colors". Why? Because, Photoshop converts colors MUCH more accurately than letting the printer driver and OS do the conversion using the ICM or ICC. Hmmm. I always let the printer driver manage colors when using the Epson papers with my Epson printer.

Last nite, Chip and I took the dogs out to Sunol. I have been scrambling for work and was not paying attention. All my infrared shots were taken with the lens on Manual Focus. However, I thought that I was on auto-focus and never adjusted. Surprisingly, a few shots are in focus.

Here is the same scene as yesterday with a slightly different composition.

I revisited Sunol to reshoot the scene near the truck crossing without a breeze. Here is the re-shot scene. See original here.

This is a shot for Mother. She calls these my "Damn Dead Leaf" shots.

This is yesterday’s image revisited. After receiving feedback about trying a square, so here it is. I think the square is better at least at this moment.
I discovered a fascinating body of work. See Stephen Gillette at http://www.stephengillette.com/.
